Staying in a city or town can make you feel trapped. If you live inside a busy city location, you can actually become caught up in what is going on directly surrounding you and begin to forget there’s more to our life than your immediate surroundings. Perhaps you may fail to see beyond your backyard and begin to forget to appreciate the fantastic outdoors or nature in general. A good example of this particular behavior happens when you might be traveling on an airplane. The moment the plane is in the air, you peer down on the city perhaps even if you’re afraid to fly, a feeling of relief washes over you whilst you watch the town fade away into the distance. All of the hustle and bustle of daily life becomes meaningless, when the cars and buildings become smaller and smaller.

However, you can’t simply board a jet anytime you feel like getting out of the city for a little bit, but you can spend the afternoon hiking in a beautiful natural setting. It’s truly amazing how everyday problems quickly drift away when you are out hiking. The only sounds that you hear are the rustling of leaves, singing birds, insects and small creatures scurrying through the trees when they hear you coming down the trail. Just like the airplane scenario, the farther uphill you hike, the farther behind you leave your problems. This can put you in an almost hypnotic state. You can feel the sun’s warmth on your skin, the gorgeous smell of sage in the air; you see the clear blue sky, fluffy white clouds and hear the rhythmic sounds of nature all around you. You begin to relax and clear your mind. Your thoughts gradually become happier. The constant pressure from the daily stress that weighs down your body and puts pressure on your forehead or temples diminishes as your body enters into a relaxed state.

As nature unfolds, it begins to envelop you. You commence wondering why your troubles are so challenging. After hiking for a while, you eventually reach a plateau. You will look down below and no longer remember your troubles. Once you are on nature’s cruise control you will begin to experience an all-natural high that can just be experienced in the great outdoors.

The even ground on the plateau you have found is where you drift through actual paradise. You pick a wildflower and smell its gorgeous fragrance. You stare in awe at the ants crawling around an anthill. The ants are not aware of the sting of aerosol sprays and poisons, for they are simply in their natural setting, and you admire them with no sense of loathing. You’re not sure what time it is because your sense of time has been distorted. You aren’t mindful of the movement of the sun because of your natural high. You sense that it is time to follow the trail back home, but you are not sure how long you have been on the trails.

The natural high that you are on lasts much longer than any chemical-induced buzz could last. Once you go back to the busy city you realize that your perspective on life has been distorted, but for the better. You see the pettiness surrounding you, and realize that the world is much larger than the city you live in. You are now calm and serene, even while living in the bustling city. You wait with a patience you did not know that you possessed for your next trip to the great outdoors to get high.

Maintaining an aquarium can be a very rewarding and fun activity. One of the great things about the hobby is that with preparation and patience, anyone can have a beautiful fish tank.

There are countless varieties of aquarium freshwater fish, and this can be both a good thing and a bad thing. I say bad because there are some fish that either require special care or they are more temperamental. These fish are more demanding and therefore are not the best fish for the beginner’s first aquarium. Sometimes it is not easy for the beginner who is picking out fish to know the good (easy) from the bad (temperamental) which can lead to frustration and wasted money on new fish.

As newborn enthusiast, you need to find a beautiful, active and hardy fish. There are fishes which can live longer even with just minimal care and little maintenance from the owner. They will not easily die even if there will be a minor fluctuation of temperature or PH level in the water.

Guppies – These fish are hardy, inexpensive, and come in many beautiful varieties. The males have long, flowing, multi-colored fins and they are generally quite active in the upper and middle water levels in the tank. As a bonus, they may be one of the easiest fish to breed, so you may end up witnessing the wonder of live-bearing fish without any effort on your part.

Plecostumus or the pleco as its common name belongs to the group of ?algae eaters?. These fishes actually eat algae in your aquarium but they still have to be fed though. You can always find this fish occupying the lower level of your fish tank. Though the fact that plecos are not that beautiful, still, the plecos are considered important by many fish keepers.

Dwarf, blue, and kissing gouramis are few varieties of gourami fish. Blue gouramies has a full size of more than 4 inches. The color and sizes of gouramies will compliment the beauty of your freshwater aquarium. They are a common preference by fish lovers.

Swordtails – With their deep orange color and the male’s namesake sword-shaped tail, these fish mix in well with a community tank.

Cory Cats – Short for Corydoras, this is another group of fish with many varieties. They are fine as a single, but as a group they will school together exploring and scouring the bottom of the tank, and they are a fun fish to have patrolling your aquarium.

Danios – This is another fish with many varieties. I include them because they are good, hardy fish that are extremely active and never seem to tire out. The zebra, leopard, and giant danios are all popular fish and will add a lot of activity to your tank, although some people find their constant activity level almost a bit too much, so keep that in mind.

Goldfish – Talk about endless variety! Goldfish have it and more. Colors, fins, size, eyes, scales…there are enough to write many books on them. As such, they are a popular choice for a species tank, which is an aquarium with only different types of goldfish. They are very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures but that doesn’t mean they will tolerate bad water. They do produce a lot of waste and may require a bit more water changing than some other fish, but they still make a great choice for someone who is just getting into the aquarium freshwater fish keeping.
